BMW G80 M3 Oil Change Schedule
Change the oil in your 2021 BMW G80 M3 every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. BMW's Condition Based Service (CBS) in iDrive monitors your driving habits and sends alerts if you need service sooner.
Your M3 has the S58 twin-turbo inline-six engine. It needs full synthetic oil that meets BMW LL-01 specs. Most owners choose 0W-30. You can use 5W-30 LL-01 in warmer areas. The oil capacity hits 6.9 quarts (6.5 liters) with a new filter. Always swap the filter at every change.
Adjust intervals based on your driving. Follow this table for the right schedule:
| Driving Condition | Interval |
|---|---|
| Normal highway or mild mixed | 10,000 miles or 12 months |
| Hard city, short trips, hot or dusty | 7,500 miles |
| Track days, high RPM runs | 5,000 miles |
These intervals make sense because synthetic oil lasts well in normal driving. Heat, high RPM, and fuel dilution from short trips wear it out faster. Shorter changes protect turbo bearings, cam lobes, and timing parts. They keep performance strong and avoid big repair bills.
If you skipped the 1,200-mile break-in service, get an oil and differential service now. Then switch to normal intervals.
Practical Tips
- Check oil level every month. Run the engine warm, park on level ground, and use iDrive's level check.
- Buy LL-01 full synthetic 0W-30 or 5W-30. Keep one spare quart in the trunk for top-offs.
- Replace the oil filter and crush washer each time. Never reuse them.
- Look for leaks at the drain plug and filter housing after startup.
- Reset CBS in iDrive after service so it tracks the next one.
- Track drivers: Change oil 1-2 days after events and note the mileage.
Expect to pay $200-$350 at a dealer or $150-$250 at an indie shop. DIY takes 45-60 minutes with basic tools, a drain pan, new filter, and 7 quarts of oil.
Change oil early if you see these signs:
- Oil level drops fast or looks very dark and thick.
- Engine runs rough, ticks at idle, or iDrive shows an oil warning.
- Strong burning oil smell after hard drives.
Sidekick tracks your mileage and patterns to remind you when CBS or custom intervals come due. (512 words)
